Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)

Your January Horoscope by Susan Miller

Life is full of possibilities! The new moon that fell just a few days ago, on December 30, is your birthday reward, for it signifies the opening of a portal that will allow you to spend your cosmic currency in a way that pleases YOU in January - there's no need to even consider anyone else. This new moon will be your ticket to open a new path, one of your own choosing, and one that has not been available to you before now. It has nothing to do with money, but everything to do with will, and judging by your chart, you have no shortage of that!

If you are puzzled about how a new moon that already occurred a few days ago could possibly affect you now, in January, you need to know that all new moons open up a two-week period for decisive action. Whatever you decide to institute during that coming time frame will have a profound effect on your entire year to come. That's how new moons work, and that's why they are vital to pay attention to.

A lot depends on whether that new endeavor takes root or not, but most of us find that things DO take root when planted during these potent periods, so remain alert and put your best energies behind the projects, endeavors, and people who matter most to you. It's now or never, and you should have a true sense of urgency about all that you do in the first part of January.

One of your most fortunate days during that time will be January 3, when the Sun and Jupiter will be beautifully angled and most helpful to you. Finances will be the order of that day, but that's a topic we will get to again later, for it's something you will be thinking about quite a bit at the end of the month.

As a Capricorn you've been through very tough times over the past two years. That period officially ended when Saturn finally exited your opposite sign of Cancer last year in mid-July, and specifically, your tough period spanned from mid-2003 through mid-2005. A relationship or a health concern was probably your main focus.

If it were up to you, you would never have to go through a period like that again. You may get your wish, for your woes were caused by a difficult aspect of teacher-planet Saturn, known to come by only once every 29 years in that position. When it does return nearly three decades from now, it will be easier to take because you learned so much from this aspect in the last go-round. Thank goodness that entire period is over and done!

Let's focus back on this month, and specifically on the first two weeks of January, for those days will be strongly colored by the new moon that appeared on December 30. If that's your birthday, or if your birthday falls within five days of that date, this new moon will affect you twice as powerfully. Yet ALL Capricorns will feel the upbeat effects of this new moon, so don't assume you will be left out if your birthday falls at a different time in the month.

This new moon shot excellent beams to both Uranus and Mars, indicating that developments will be unexpectedly positive and news will be what you least expect. Romance and travel appear to be on the agenda, because Mars is based in your true love sector and Uranus in your third house of short trips.

Let's talk specifically about romance first. Since the end of July, Mars has taken up shop in your fifth house of true love, which is an enviable place for Mars to be. Mars would never allow your social life to fall into a boring rut, not if you let Mars do its job! However, things slowed down in the romance department in October and didn't perk up until December 10 because during those two-and-a- half months, Mars was in retrograde. That's a position that means a planet is at rest and not emitting the same level of power that it usually would.

Now it's Venus' time to rest, and usually you wouldn't care, but Venus rules your fifth house of love, so it means your romantic life will be filled with interesting plot twists and turns. Someone from the past - a relationship that you assumed was over and done - may now resurface for a second look, and it will be up to you to see if you want to open that door again.

Although it may be that Venus is retrograde, it happens to be in Capricorn, so weak or strong, it is ALWAYS better to have Venus grace your sign than not. It means you will be dripping with allure and charisma, something everyone in their right mind wants!

Don't schedule plastic surgery or any risky changes in hair color, for example, as Venus rules good looks, and you want a strong Venus on your side when you do those sorts of things. Venus will normalize its orbit on February 3, so you have only one little month to wait, when things will get even peppier for you.

Your very best romantic evenings of the month include: January 4, 7, 13, 17, and 21 - 23. I love all these days for you, but I would like you to take special note of January 21 - 23, when Venus and Mars will be in perfect sync.

One key relationship is likely to reach culmination at the full moon in Cancer on January 14, a time when you'll need to decide where to take it in the future, assuming you want it to continue. Mercury will be superbly angled to both Jupiter and Mars, so it appears you may have an announcement to make. News, decisions, and future plans should make you excited!

If you were born on January 14, this full moon will be your most powerful moment of the month and will affect you more than the new moon, discussed above.

Are there any clouds on the Capricorn horizon? Unfortunately, there are. Joint finances seem to be giving you headaches, something that will become very apparent on the month's most depressing day, Friday, January 27. That's when Saturn will exactly oppose the Sun and it may make you feel very vulnerable. If you are tired, you will be even more sensitive to others' criticisms or poor excuses. Try to stay strong - you will need to be on this day.

The new moon on January 29 will find you determined to take the bull by the horns and straighten out this tangled financial situation. You may have felt that your trust was betrayed, or that you were let down, deliberately misinformed, or deceived. You're not about to be taken for a fool, so now you can turn the tables in your favor. You won't be able to accomplish this overnight, so you'll need to have patience, but this month you'll establish that you are not a pushover.

If you feel you are partly to blame (and you need not confess this to anyone), you may find yourself coping with a sticky creditor who will demand his due - "or else." While this will cause stress, it is not the end of the world. You can learn from this and rebuild stronger than ever. Develop a plan, even if you have to dig out in a step-by-step way, like Scarlet O'Hara in "Gone with the Wind." With fist raised to the heavens and as God as your witness, you can exclaim that you will never again find yourself in a position like this.

We are moving into tax time, so take extra care to be honest on your return, for Saturn in the eighth house, as you have, can trigger an audit. I debated about whether or not I should tell you this, but as your friend, I feel duty bound to do so. If this happens, you will have to defend your present decisions with backup receipts, so make sure everything is in apple pie order. No reason to freak out - if you are operating above board, you will sail through this scrutiny in no time flat. Of course, not everyone is audited, only those that the computer flags. I just want you to be careful, dear Capricorn.

The good part about the new moon on January 29 is that it will provide you with an opportunity to ask for a raise. With Saturn in such stern opposition, you will have to present a very good argument to your boss or it won't happen. Either you will have to be willing to do a lot more work for the increase (so much so that you may wonder if you really want to make this bargain) or you may have to settle for a very small raise. Still, I see that you can probably get something, and something could be better than nothing.

Finally, your creative efforts are likely to bring raves, so don't be shy - speak up and present your ideas to the people who matter. You will be going great guns between now and mid-February, so jot down those ideas in a sketch book or notepad, for there will be gold in some of those thoughts!

Summary

January is likely to be a very busy time, with lots of communication coming in - phone calls, emails, couriered documents, and meetings - and keeping up will take all your concentration and strength. It will be vital that you know what's important to you and what's not - and beeline toward what IS on your list of priorities. Otherwise, in a month heaping with opportunity you could waste time running in circles.

While work will bring success, your social life is likely to take center stage. With Mars in a strong, supportive position and still sparking your romance sector, it behooves you to plan a birthday party for yourself if none of your friends seem to be plotting one for you. Taking your happiness into your own hands is the first step to assure a great day.

Venus will be retrograde in Capricorn, and although a bit weaker in this position, keep in mind that Venus will favor YOU over all other signs. While it would not be a good time to schedule plastic surgery (wait until after February 3) it's a grand time to treat yourself to concert tickets, dinners out, and pampering facials and massages.

The full moon, January 14, will likely bring a relationship question or strategy to fullness. A good relationship will improve, but a difficult one will go through an even tougher phase. As you begin the month, you'll know the difference.

Admittedly, your money picture shows room for improvement, but you'll have a chance to fix things if you leave your emotions out of the picture. Saturn and Neptune will be at odds for months to come, but this will be a blessing because Saturn will reinforce the idea that you stay pragmatic and objective. When dealing with financial issues, ask for solid evidence to assertions, arguments, or assumptions that others present to you.

Indeed, over the past few years, you found yourself at the wrong end of the stick only when you were too trusting of others' financial promises. Lately you didn't want to leave the impression that you didn't trust what you were being told, but as a result, it looks like certain people took advantage of you.

You've been bitten, so from now on you'll be less concerned about the impression you'll leave and more concerned about protecting your cash and credit rating. Do background checks and ask to see financial printouts to verify what you've been told. Be present in all matters involving money, for it would not be wise to have others make decisions for you.

Ask for a better salary on January 30.
