Wow. I knew smithing was "involved" but it's been a long time since I've been around any forges.
Health insurance is pretty important, nowadays. One never knows what's going to happen in the insurance world. Or the employment world, either.
Twenty to 30 acres sounds big enough for a forge...;o] I hope you can find something you like in an area that is full of the kind of game you like. That would be pretty cool!

Involved? Not really. Need fire. Need metal. Need something to squish it between. That is pretty much it. My first open top forge will either be made from a used steel tire rim or a washtub. Since I can't seem to find an anvil down here I can afford, my first "anvil" may be a length of railroad tracking piked to a log. You use what you have until you can build on it.
Of course I'll keep everyone posted. What else are we gonna do in here? ;-)
