These aren't quite suitable. They're too far North, and a bit too large. The large crater toward the center right of the picture has ice in it.

What I like about them is the nice roundness they exhibit.

We'll find one that is a perfect fit for our Flying Castle enclosure, and when we park it in its crater, it will look as though it has always been there.

That's why I want to leave a dome. Over the course of years, we can fill the space with air and plants, and have a ready shelter for any visitors to the Red Planet.

Gold and gems - take that up with the Tax Goddess.

I have no need for tawdry lucre, I am satisfied to be the mere First Citizen Lord God Emperor Imperator Divine Crusher of Worlds and King of the Solar Mysteries.

running on low power and working feverishly to wade through a backlog of crap built up during my active illness, plus having twits constantly getting underfoot... does not add up to me being in a fine fettle.

ah, well.

not sure - the Latin is lousy, and not a famous quote (or at least not one I recognise)

however, part thereof translates roughly as "risk taker" so the silly plea for investmewnt fits at least that part of the header.

humans are thus far not impressing me favorably today.

When do they ever?

in terms of the common performance of the massed majority? never.

individuals often surprise me pleasantly, though.

the Latin for bat?

Chiroptera (actually, that's Greek - and the scientific nomenclature, not the vernacular)

the common vernacular Latin for bat is... vespertilio... presumably deriving from "vesper" (evening or dusk)

could be worse... had the Romans been a bit more literal, and given a nod to the dusk AND dawn activity of the critters, they'd have called the little flying mice something like "crepuscultilio"

oh, the *other* type of bat is a "clava" for a club or bludgeon (which is durn close to "clavis" or key... the Romans were sometimes goofy that way... but maybe old time keys really were THAT big...)

Hello to the Undead Thread from New Delhi! Been a busy week, thankfully over. They pick me up in a couple of hours (just after noon) for an afternoon of shopping and touring New Delhi, then it's dinner and off to the airport for the 1 AM flight to Chicago: first stop on the way home, arriving some 40+ hours from now.

Don't know when I'll be back in; maybe Saturday if I'm lucky and not too wiped out.

In the meantime, some pictures from a couple of days ago. The first two are of Delhi's (a href="http://asi.nic.in/qutab.html">Qutb Minar (spire, think "minaret") -- an absolutely amazing tower some 800 years old. The carvings (in the second picture) are very Islamic in nature. The third picture was taken from the Lotus Temple (Baha'i); conditions were very poor for a photo of it, but there were these other towers in the distance -- a temple or monument or some such to one of the gods. I may go there today...

BTW, in the first photo there's a bit of telephoto effect; the people in the picture would be about a third that height standing next to the minar.
