I'm not sure I am following you. Before the first hour they showed what happened last season which was followed by the words ' 18 months later '.
I was new to the show starting last year so I have a question: wouldn't there be some type of time lapse in between each season?

Yes.. there is a time lapse between each season. Each season, however, is a consecutive 24 hour day.
