In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
dubiety \doo-BY-uh-tee; dyoo-\, noun
1. The condition or quality of being doubtful or skeptical.
2. A matter of doubt.
Example sentences:
Kennedy and O'Connor may think that Title 3 has been violated, but O'Connor and the chief justice are not convinced that the Supreme Court was meant to litigate challenges under that federal statute, and their dubiety here is shared by Justices Scalia and Souter.
--Hadley Arkes, "A Morning at the Court," National Review, December 2, 2000
I want every inconsistency, every dubiety, every ambiguity left in.
--David Maclean, quoted in David Hencke, "Tories plot hunt bill dirty tricks," The Guardian, January 17, 2001
Etymology: Dubiety is from Late Latin dubietas, from Latin dubius, "doubtful, uncertain."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Sorry for late reply, I had to be off-line for "domestic duties" - husband home for lunch.

Butt what else did you dust off fer the Slip18+EMC2Hubbies-at-home-for-nooner-eat-out-for-lunch? 8<)
Thank you for the nice grade!
Slip, several times when we were in PA they closed schools because of the heat - of course they weren't air conditioned. ;^)
You're right - this is odd for mid January. I'm used to it happening in mid-december....
I'm just thankful they finished with the chicken houses..otherwise I would not be able to have the door and windows open.
i am bracing for a blizzard on President's day long weekend. you know how it loves to happen then.
I wouldn't go that far.
Basically this lib just can't fit Alito into the false characature that she has of Scalia and Thomas. If she had clerked for them her opinion of them would be different.
It is sunny and 70 here-it was foggy and cloudy this morning, but by 9 it was all gone and the sun came out. There is a cold front due in tonight, but it isn't going to drop the temperature much below freezing tomorrow night. When it is mild like this in December-January, it is wickedly rainy and cold in February more often than not-I hope this year will be "not"...
You're probably right...........
xshub said this afternoon has gone well for Alito, that Arleen has conducted this entire thing admirably and that it was pure genius for him to have arranged for the 3d cir panel to speak on Alito's behalf. the judges on that panel are HUGE libs, the 3d is just behind the 9th as far as ludicrously lib. notice that the dems are not in the room for most of this.
I wish someone would ask Maryanne Trump Barry about the flamingos.
I am dreading February and March....it's been far too mild. The hammer is going to drp.
