Women waste billions on clothes never worn

LONDON, JANUARY 7: British women have spent more than 7 billion pounds buying clothes, shoes and accessories they will never wear, according to a survey on Friday.

Women have 14 items of clothing, on average, lurking in the back of their wardrobes that they have not worn in the last year, the survey by home insurer Churchill found.

Each unwanted item cost an average 21.82 pounds, which meant Britain's 24 million women spent 7.3 billion pounds last year on clothes they did not wear, the insurer said.

Nearly two-thirds of women (62 percent) said that they bought their fashion follies in the sales, the same proportion as bought clothes a size too small in the hopes of dieting to fit their latest finds.

Churchill said women were spending an average 305 pounds a year on clothes they would never wear, or 12,810 pounds in a working lifetime.

"Many householders are guilty of buying new clothes in the sales which will never get worn," said Martin Scott, head of Churchill Home Insurance.

When she moved out of here she had less than a dozen. Now that she’s finally on her own she just kind of went wild with the shoes. I’ve talked with a few other young women and they see nothing unusual about having that many shoes!
I have 2 pair – moccasins and semi dress.

Yeah. so? Not every purchase is a success. Some cars are lemons too. Some expensive dogs bite or pee on the furniture, some steak is tough. "Ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances.">>>>>>>>>>>

Women waste billions on clothes never worn

Riley drops what he's doing, rummages around in the closet, takes out enormous bullhorn, hikes to the top of the tallest mountain, fills his lungs and in a roaring bellow, thunders...

DUH!!!

(Somewhere out there tonight, the Ex Mrs. Riley, is examining a bulging closet which cannot be made to fit another article of clothing, and will in all liklihood utter that familiar refrain, "I don't have anything to wear- I need to go shopping".)

I think in FY 2005 I bought a pair of khakis, a pair of corduroys, a six-pack of tube socks and maybe some underwear (I'm not counting assorted baseball caps). And I'm single.

There may be a corollary.

I think you not taking into account that women are prone to thinking, hopefully, about "size."

"I'm gonna wear that when I get to that 'size'"

Also, due to homornal cycles, women have to have at least 2-3 sizes of clothing, just to accomodate fluctuations.

Yep. I got that. That's why I said, "either."

My statement was much news as the news article... Non-news, the both of them.

My dear wife buys all of her designer clothing at consignment stores for typically what the sales tax is on the item new. She looks for what she calls "diet dresses", new with labels and never worn by women who hoped they could diet their way into them. She has build a fabulous designer wardrobe on a Penny's budget. I'm glad I married smart and beautiful.

regards,

Know what you mean. Now that the hormonal thing isn't such a big consideration, my closet got culled to very little. It's a relief not having so much "stuff."

Women's clothing, by nature is closer-fitting.

Men have S-M-L-XL...if you fluctuate by 5 pounds...no big deal...

Women have 2-4-6-8-10-12-14...without a lot of leeway.
