that is kinda weird how they did that. remember though this distro is at .92 that means beta release.
i'm loading genieOS .5 on my test box right now. wish me luck.(smiles)
after you load 30 or so distros you get really good at it.LOL
if you do keep trying new linux things out keep in touch, i'm on the front lines with you.
also give desktopBSD and PC-BSD a try.
alot more stable and even a bigger headache to figure out what the heck they are talking about.
Gotta jump in here.
I have been using Windows, still use it, but I’m sick of dealing with the licensing. I buy used Ebay laptops, and some come without OS’s.
I read about Ubuntu and thought that’s where I’d end up, but after loading it, I didn’t have the DVD player?!? and some other things not right. Meanwhile, my son’s computer was constantly crashing regardless what OS or hardware changes we made UNTIL we put PCLinuxOS all upon. It’s run solidly ever since......
So I put it on my own Windows xp pro machine as a dual boot. Simple, even to this Linux newbie. I’m using it right now in fact. I have all my Firefox bookmarks syncronized, so they’re all there. It feels like I’m still on XP. It found my internet wireless card, thumbdrives, everything. It supports flash websites, and everything else I’ve tried. OH, I haven’t tried downloading a PDF file.
The ONLY thing I have found that I don’t like is a stupid sniggling detail. I like to use the keyboard as much as possible and the backspace will revert to the previous page in the browser in xp. I haven’t found where to make it do that in PCLOS.
Also, something I’ve discovered about my Compaq Evo. The touchpad doesn’t have those cool side-slide strips for scrolling up and down the page. Not under XP anyway. With PCLOS it WORKS! If I keep my finger on the edge of the scroll pad it moves the page, not the mouse. It’s like a free hardware upgrade.
