I recently heard an Army general make the following interesting remark, "Logistically we are now dependent on the air bridge to Asia (for replacement parts)". This remark produced no dismay or consternation to the group of upper mid level logisticians he was speaking to. One would like to know how much of what the air bridge delivers originates in Communist China and simply gets stamped 'Japan' or 'Malaysia' or 'Taiwan'as the parts are put into final assembly at those places.
I do know that part of the reason for the ludicrously slow arming of the new Iraqi Army battalions is that the contract for small arms and mortars was subbed out to a Chinese company. For some reason they have had many many problems making deliveries in a timely and efficient manner.
