On New Year's Eve my wife and I saw "Walk the Line". I thought the crowd would be small because the movie has been out for a while, but every seat was full for the next to last show. People will still pay to see a worthwhile movie, and I'm betting this one will draw more Academy nominations than the sheepherder fiasco, which was also playing at the same 30-screen monster theater.

Walk the Line was a pretty good movie (although Ray was a better-acted biopic), but mass popularity has almost zip to do with nominations - Fudgepack Mountin' will bury WTL in nominations. Joaquin Phoenix may pick up Best Actor, though.
