Did they seem ugly to you, or did the move portray them as ugly? I know Hollywood lives the typical American 'as long as I got what I want, screw morals and screw you' attitude. I love Johnny Cash's music, and I appreciate that they were married for 40 years, but it saddens me that they portray them as the great love story and ignore the children that had their lives uprooted by their selfishness.
Yes, Johnny was nailing up pictures of June Carter in his rumpus room and his wife objected and a huge fight broke out, with him choking her on the ground when the kids walked in. They did portray him treating his wife horribly...I kept thinkig, that poor woman.
They didnt dwell on June Carter's husbands, other than she seemed to always be on the road and her kids missing her.
Of course, leaving the theatre you start to wonder what was real, what was editorial license, and what was a rewrite.
