I've never understood the perverse fixation on human suffering. Back in the day I went to see Halloween II because my date wanted to, I've never watched garbage like that since.

Roth has stated that this film is a commentary on the direction the porn business is ultimately headed. Maybe it's a commentary on the direction he's ultimately headed.

I've never understood the perverse fixation on human suffering.

Especially when American special interest groups go berserk over non-violent "art-house" erotic films, then seem to look the other way when movie after movie like this gets an "R" rating. I don't think it's too hard to figure out which type of film has done more damage to American culture over the last thirty years.
