My uncle used say something along those line too! I think it was 'When in an argument stop and realize the other guy might be just as dense as you." (His idea was to try and come out ahead on the whole thing in the end, along with the other fellow. Although I admit he wasn't always so moved to kindness, his idea of getting ahead was often a bit radical! You should have seen his collection of heads before he got religion and milded down a mite as he aged.)
