None of today's games really excite me. Then, unfortunately, on Monday we have several great games going on at the same time on different networks.

Grrrrr.

The year of the Big 12 is at hand. After being maligned all season they are now 4-1 with several significant underdogs. Not only are they 4-1 but they put in 8 teams so they are winning bowl games with the middle of their 'weak' conference. No question they don't have the great teams they normally do but they appear to have some strength down the line. Contrast that to the always over rated Pac 10 who is in the second spot at 3-1. The Pac 10 is going with their best 5 teams and were prohibitive favorites in all four so far. Of these only UCLA covered the spread despite being outgained by about 150 yards. Additional bias is shown by Oregon, the number 6 team in the country with only one loss being only a 3 pt favorite over an average Big 12 team. While they didn't have their QB that doesn't translate into that many pts IMHO. I'm also amazed that Texas Tech doesn't get any respect in the polls and yet are favored over higher ranked Bama. In conclusion I'm looking for a solid Texas win over the often challenged Trojans. Texas beat Ohio St at home and then walked thru a confernece that is 4-1 in bowl games against some fairly good teams. I'm a Buffalo so enough said there but looking forward to next year and our new Blue field.

I think this was a great hire by the Buffs. Hawkins can recruit in CA and will be able to pick up some of the big name in-state (CO) recruits that left for bigger programs like LenDale White at USC or Cory Ross at Nebraska. Look for CU to be back in the BCS mix in 3 years.

whereas I didn't think the Big XII was representative of Texas, I seriously doubt the PAC-10 is representative of USC.

Don't get cocky.

I was debating on even doing a thread, but I figured I might as well...

The Sooners, from the same mighty Big 12 conference as Texas, sure thought they had a chance in last year's title game. A 55-19 decision quickly changed all of that crazy talk.

No, you had to do a thread. Maybe one of today's games will get interesting and the thread will give me the headsup to tune in.

That is my sincerest hope. I've enjoyed watching Boise the last four years and am excited for the first time in years. As a Buff however hope is always tempered by reality. I went four years at Colorado and had to drive to Lawrence to see us win a football game. My fifth year we went to the freedom bowl. Buff fans are always waiting for the other shoe to drop...at least my generation.

"Don't get cocky."

Not likely despite my provocotive post. I bet on Texas plus 7 as well as on the money line and that's the kiss of death for the Longhorns.

True enough and no one was more surprised than me. I prefer to focus on this year's game. My main point is the constant disrespect for the Big 12 especially this year. No question it wasn't a banner year but it's ending ok.

"...the always overrated Pac-10.."

So as usual, where do we begin? Oklahoma played two Pac-10 teams this year, getting blown out by 'overrated' UCLA 41-24, and squeaking by an Oregon team finishing up the year without their quarterback, 17-14. Oklahoma averaged over 30 points a game in their eight Big-12 games, but just 20 per game against the 'lousy, non-existent' Pac-10 defenses they played. You say Oregon was a 'prohibitive' favorite over Oklahoma, but the line was 3 points. When Clemens went out with the broken leg, Oregon limped through three consecutive close games, winning all against Arizona 28-21, Cal 27-20, and Washington State 34-31. It's commendable that they won the games while working in two rookie quarterbacks, but they weren't the same team without Clemens, and this was reflected in the 3 point line for the game, and Oregon missing out on a BCS game. Oklahoma got absolutely screwed by the refs against Texas Tech, otherwise they finish up the season with 7 consecutive wins. So don't try to tell me that it was some huge upset that Oklahoma beat Oregon 17-14.

The toughest game LSU faced all year was Arizona State, who put up 560 yards on that 'powerful SEC defense'. LSU needed two kicking game flukes and a last minute Hail Mary to beat ASU 35-31. Arizona State also played Northwestern earlier this year and beat them 52-21, and UCLA put up 50 on them yesterday. Of the five Pac-10 bowl teams, 3 of them (Cal, Oregon, and Arizona State) lost their starting quarterbacks for the season to injury, and yet still played well.

So gimme a break on this anti-Pac-10 crap. I can understand the frustration of watching USC dominate college football over the past three years, and I can understand your desperate attempt to explain away 34 straight wins as not having come against good competition, but your arguments hold no water. I know they don't hold much water in Norman.

Also, the Pac-10 is 6-1 in their past 7 BCS bowl games, and all six wins were routs. 'Always overrated'? And also, something like 8-3 in their last 11 games against the 'powerful' SEC. How has your conference done in both these categories, by the way?

It's ending okay, although the jury won't be in until Wednesday night.

By any objective standard, the Big 12 North had an off year. Colorado backed into the title game and it showed. Nobody expects that division to remain down for long though, because the football programs are well-established and the money is there to rebuild.

I'm certainly not going to join the bandwagon saying the Big 12 is an inferior conference. Texas is the real deal, for sure, and I'm not expecting them to get humiliated at the Rose Bowl. They can win, although I'm not expecting it. USC has so many weapons.

Silly me, I changed the channel once the game was over. I expect that there will be some fallout from the brawl.

If I had more ambition, I'd chase back to the "Oregon got screwed" threads to see who's eating crow. I'm pretty happy with the Big 12 showing this year so far.

Nothing would please me greater, as I watch the nightly ESPN coronation of USC 2005 as one of the greatest national champs ever, then to see the Longhorns serve up a big crap sandwich to the Southern Cal boys.

First off I never belittled USC and I don't want to take anything away from them. They won a half title and then kept going. The Pac 10 however is another story. They are a 2-4 team conference this year and in most years. If you want to compare conference stats we could argue all day and you might have the edge the last two years but I don't think you'd find many who expect that to continue. As for the Oregon line in the Oklahoma game you are talking about the number 6 team in the country with one loss against a team with 4 losses including two in a 'weak' conference. I don't know about you but I would expect a bigger line if you chose two other like situated teams...e.g. 7 1/2. Look at who Oklahoma beat in that stretch of wins and their best game was the loss you mentioned to T Tech. USC is the only real team in the conference much like Texas is the only true contender in the Big 12. I guess my gripe is the belittlement of the Big 12 this year and I chose to compare them to another conference I follow.

They are both loaded with weapons and I guess that's what makes this game so interesting. I'm more excited about this game Nebraska winning the title with a blow out int he orange bowl when everybody was expecting the opposite. This could be wishful thinking but I am hoping for something similar. The press is behing SC and already coronating them and that alone is enough to piss me off. If the media is on one side I'm generally on the other regardless of the subject.

I'd like to call you a spoiled young brat for not experiencing the down decades but then you've suffered enough recently to be a true Buff fan. Things are about to get better.
