What's really needed is a wholesale redesign of the PC architecture from the bare metal up.

Not sure why....with the dual core's coming out everyone is going to be sitting around signing up for various Folding projects...just to see their computer run above 20% utilization!

You're probably right. The platform is evolving over time, and most "wholesale" technologies are in the wastebin or got incorporated at lower levels: GaAs, wafer-scale integration, transmeta. The current system is OK as long as faster processors are developed, and increasing workload is put on those processors. But it seems more logical to me to spread it out more. Let the GPU really start to handle the graphics, etc. I'll have to think about it.
