Okay, Free Republic has been a main source of information for me for a long time. That said I have never started a topic. This will be my first. I hope I am doing this correctly.
I want a wireless router / print server for my home. I have a Windows XP laptop. I have a linksys router that works well but does not have a print server so I have to keep pluggin the printer into my laptop. What products have you used that you would recommend for commbination router/print server? Thanks.

I cannot remember the brand name, but I once bought a converter for my printer that plugged into the printer where the cable normally goes, and the other side contained a port for an ethernet cable that you can plug into your router. It then provided an IP address for the printer that you can use for your entire network.
are you logged in?
Hope that helps!
AirPort Express with AirTunes is an incredible wireless product that allows you to play iTunes music over your wireless network to your home stereo or powered speakers. It also allows you to share both a broadband Internet connection for up to 10 users and a USB printer . If you already have wireless at home, powered by an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station, you can easily extend the range of your wireless network by connecting a second AirPort Express to it. AirPort Express has a small unique design made for life on the go. There are no separate power supplies or cables required, making it easy and convenient to take with you. AirPort Express is also designed to fully support both Mac and PC users.
Available from Apple Store
What ShadowAce is talking about is an HP JetDirect box. I have 3 at home that were retired from use in the company I work for. The plain vanilla JetDirect boxes are kinda hard to come by nowadays. Probably can find one on ebay for cheap.
The new ones all seem to be referred to as print servers and most have a bunch of bells and whistles that add to the price.
A quick search on the computer equipment website of your choice for "print server" will probably turn up something to fit your need and budget. TigerDirect has like 27 ranging from $25-$300+. Brand names are of little consequence anymore (it's all Chinese slave labor made) and you'll find a wide range of opinions here about which is best. Be sure to check the online reviews that almost all these sites offer now.
Thanks everyone. It looks like I have numerous options and lots of research to do. Cheers!
New twist. My printer is a Brother MFC-8500. Since it is a multifunction machine I cannot use the print router. Sounds like it's time for a new printer!
