True, am I right in saying that they never made any more Sledge Hammer after that? I believe that was the end, but I'm not sure.

Most shows go stale after two seasons. The first season introduces the concept. The second fulfills its potential. Slippage or a falling off happens in season three, and then it's just exploitation of the same old material until cancellation. The cancellations that hurt aren't the long running shows that have exausted their premises, but the new concepts that never get off the ground and never get a chance to go stale.
I'd like for Arrested Development to stick around a while longer, though. The X-Files? Half the time I couldn't understand what was going on anway. I wouldn't mind if Harsh Realm had had a full season, Dark Skies more time or Millennium another year. Once the Millennium actually came around though, the show's concept -- the horrors to come -- would have been exposed as a fraud.

The nuclear explosion was the end of season one. They didn't think they were going to get renewed, so they decided to go out with a bang (so to speak). Once the show was renewed for another season, they needed to explain away the ending to season one so they inserted a tag onto the first episode of season two that read "The following season of Sledge Hammer! takes place five years before that nuclear explosion. Thank you."
Cheap cop out or not, I was grateful to get another season out of ABC. You can also buy them on DVD now!

So we then got a prequel! That explains why I wasn't sure.

I loved
Sledge Hammer! It feels good to know that I'm not alone.
When it comes to Britcoms, I love Fawlty Towers but I think my favorite is Are You Being Served?
Mr. Mash (upon being insulted by Captain Peacock): I don't know what that word means but I shall get a dictionary and look it up, and if I dont' like it I shall come back and call you a very long word meaning 'twit'.

An awful lot of those old shows can be had by the season on DVD at Best Buy. I got the OLD Star Trek series there. It ain't cheap but it sure is worth it. And the best part is, there are no commercials.
