"I'm assuming two things: one, that Epic will allow all 3 versions of the game to be played together."

That's a hell of an assumption. It's not a common thing to do at all. Most online-centric games aren't even released on more than one platform, much less allow cross-platform play. It might be the future direction of games, but to assume that UT2007 will have this feature without some good evidence is assuming quite a lot.

"And two, Epic will continue to allow the community to make their own servers, rather than forcing them to play on Epic's servers."

This would make integrating their system with an Xbox 360 and PS3 service even harder.

"This strongly suggests that Sony has an online strategy that's at least good enough to handle UT."

That's a huge leap. It only suggests that Epic thinks it can make UT2007 work on the PS3, which doesn't require any service from Sony other than shipping the console with built-in online capability. (and although an Xbox 360 version isn't that unlikely, it probably won't come out on the Revolution, and hasn't been anounced for either to my knowledge).

The PS3, from what I recall, has something like 10 USB ports, so it might be possible.

It's not common, but certainly doable, and has precedent. I don't see why Epic wouldn't do it.

How?

(and although an Xbox 360 version isn't that unlikely, it probably won't come out on the Revolution, and hasn't been anounced for either to my knowledge).

UT2K7 has already been announced for the 360. Revolution is the only next-gen console not getting the game. The question here is... if Microsoft has Xbox Live, and they're getting UT2K7, why would Epic bother porting UT2K7 to the PS3 if it didn't have some sort of service in the works?

Epic could have plenty of reasons involving the techinical challenges. If it's not common, then you're on precarious grounds if you just assume that they will.

"How?"

Because now you have to have client-side software that's capable of dealing with Live and Sony's service.

The only reason Epic needs to port it to the PS3 is that they think they can sell units there. They probaby have their own in-house service planned. There's no reason to think that they need a Sony service.
