I read that at the time--Hollywood didn't like being mocked. As someone said in some magazine recently, he was surprised (but shouldn't have been) to learn through his experience in Hollywood that stars have great senses of humor about everyone but themselves. A humorless lot--how else to explain their enjoying Crystal and Ellen?
Yup. They're stupid and they just HATE someone pointing that out on national television.
