The Vast Right Wing Knitting and Needleworker's Circle

logo

'Twas three days before Christmas, and all through the house,
The panic was starting, and even the mouse
Knew better than stand near the kitchen and stare,
And away from the sewing room -don't even go there.
The projects to finish, the work left to do,
The presents to wrap, and more cooking, too
As aunties and uncles, grandmas and pas
and nieces and nephews expect Santa Claus,
And husbands lay low, lest they get in the way,
and children don't need an excuse to go play,
On cookies, on bread dough, on stockings, on holly,
On gooses to stuff, on cranberry jelly,
Sew last minute presents,  wrap last minute toys
for almost forgotten good girls and boys.
Time is awasting!  It soon will be here!
That moment we look for - Sweet Christmas cheer!
In honor of that birth down in Bethelem way,
Merry Christmas to you, and have a great day.

first response... hurray!!!!! Actually, I'm more than halfway there. We had our big extended family party here last Sunday and it went beautifully. Then on Tuesday, my secretary and I took home baked cookies out to all the courts where I practice... in adorable boxes - very well received. Then yesterday my oldest and his wife came over to open their presents and empty their stockings... wonderful. So now my other son comes in town tomorrow and we all go to sis in laws on Sunday for the rest of the family holiday. It's been wonderful, relaxed, beautiful. I love sharing on this thread. Merry Christmas all and God bless.

I have done, I think, all my shopping. Anything bought today doesn't count!

My stepmom sent me the most gorgeous Irish Chain quilt. My oldest son spent the weekend over here and promised to come back this weekend too...

Everything I mail ordered came in in time, and everything I have left to do will be done via Amazon...so I am sitting happy.

Cleaned out the fridge yesterday, so I have room for the dinner makings. Amazing how many types of pickles I have stashed away...

Last minute stories, huh? Okay.

The wife was doing one of those gorgeous needlepoint Christmas Stockings for the most recently born grand-daughter. She started last fall, about 14 months ago. She had to put it aside to finish baby quilts last winter and couldn't take it up again until about May.

As the summer began she was doing a lot of it in the evening and after a month discovered that some of the skians of yarn were from a faulty die lot and when the stocking was in the right light some areas looked white-yellow instead of a bone white.

You guessed it. She took that thing apart and reworked areas by substituting and blending, over and over again.

Finally in September we went out to search for the exact best substitute yarn...we spent hours. She finished it up by reworking it for hours late at night and sent it off for final finish crafting about five weeks ago and got it back just in time to express mail across the country on the 15th.

She probably could have put together a needle point rug in less time, LOL. I bet she put four times the hours into that stocking and despite it being great looking, she dreaded picking it up because she knew every sticth that was blended or less than perfect. Once handled, no one else could ever see any distinction. But, she can.

You needle work elves are so regressive.

Perfection does not come easy....

"Perfection" is certainly my term for her. But striving for that goal is awfully hard on the striveor.

I'm not that bad a perfectionist, myself. I have other ways to drive myself crazy.

Good morning...first visit to this thread. :o)

My husband and I are making each other's Christmas gifts. Due to *life* happening, neither of us have finished. Rather than become overwhelmed with the projects we've decided to finish by Valentines Day.

We're looking forward to a non-stressful celebration this Christmastime. :o)

That is a marvelous poem, KAC! 'Twas three days before Christmas, and alwaysconservative is frenziedly weaving yarn tails into scarves before wrapping them and trying to figure out why the heck she didn't do this sooner, when she finished each scarf (slaps self on her lazy forehead).

Gotta run and play Mrs. Santa with one batch of presents.

Mr. Alwaysconservative would be very safe giving me a gift certificate to Hobby Lobby, LOL!

Good afternoon all! I'm taking a baking and knitting break.

All the scarves are nearly finished. The last one is just a garter stitch so it should be done sometime today.

Plus I am baking up a storm. Brownies, mini-cheesecakes, pecan pie bars, peanut butter cookies, and I'm not even done yet. I can't even tell you how difficult it is to be sitting here knowing all those goodies are in the kitchen calling my name. Since mid August I've lost 32 pounds and wrote on the dry erase board on the fridge, "STOP EATING COOKIES! Only 18 pounds until 50 gone!!!" So far it's worked. LOL

Merry last days before Christmas, everyone! :-)

KAC, you're a poet too! And not a bad one at all. ;-)

I have finished shopping 4 times, so far. lol It's been a few years since I've been able to find just that last little thing for each of the kids. Need to make an apron and 5 juggling balls still.

I'm mostly concentrating on getting the house cleaned, I mean really clean, today and tomorrow. Then I get to cook all day Saturday for our Christmas Eve buffet.

May you all have a long list of check marks and a tidy house to celebrate,
Pinz

We're having a big party tomorrow night and Christmas dinner here on Saturday... I have pecan tassies to make tonight and cleaning and stuff before the party tomorrow. I'm out of yarn for the moment, which is a good thing cause I would probably blow off the pecan tassies... :-)
