Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

They had a great run of shows. We've bought a few seasons, as they've come out. The DVD's are good, with pretty good special feature interviews and commentaries.

Making chicken soup with the leftover chicken. It's been simmering for a bit now, and smells soooo good. I hate waiting...
Speaking of waiting, I still don't know yet if the sourdough starter is gonna work. It looks a little bubbly, but that may just be air bubbles from when I've stirred it. Guess I gotta wait a few days. It may take longer than usual since it's only *just* warm in here, and I don't have a good warm spot to put it in. Back home, I'd set it on the top of the stove, since the pilot light in the oven always seemed to mean the stove was very slightly warm. Here, the stove is electric...so that doesn't work.

Mornin'... [sip]
That concert last night was really good. The group is here: http://www.kimock.com They remind me of Steve Morse, or the Dixie Dregs. All instrumental, very technical, precise.
The music was hot. The venue was a little wierd though. Really odd crowd. Very birkenstock/hippie crowd... for a band that was mostly rock/fusion sort of stuff. Couldn't quite reconcile that.

I might make chicken soup this weekend if I don't do clam chowder tonight. It's supposed to be a cold and snowy weekend so soup should taste good.

Heh. The venue was kinda sad. The Showbox theatre is a very old theatre right smack in the Pike and First zone. There's a big picture inside the lobby of the theatre "back in the day" when the lighted sign read "Duke Ellington". It's set up as a dinner club... only with no tables or chairs anymore. It has clearly suffered many owners and bad makeovers.
There was something very wrong with the beer. It tasted... off... somehow.
Fortunately for us, the body odor of the crowd managed to overwhelm the stale flat beer and urine smell, so it worked out OK.
It would be a really cool place with a couple million thrown at it.

Oh... but nobody was smoking inside... so no stale smoke smell to compete with the body odor, urine and weeks-old spilt beer.
So there's that.

Cold and snowy here, too.
Which, considering the weekend's main objective is to finish the blanket I'm making, is probably a good thing. I shouldn't really be going out, even if I want to.
Besides, I have more than enough presents for everyone as it is. Especially with the cookies and fudge thrown in. I'm still tryin' to figure when it makes sense to make those. If I wait tooo long, they won't get there in time, but if I make 'em too early...they'll be stale before they get eaten.

Got to go extract samples now.

Speaking of the smoking ban thing... One night a long time ago now, a bunch of us (Tiff, her ex Joe, some other people) were at the South Paw, but we'd all eaten somewhere else... I don't remember where now.
Anyway, room's safely full of thick smoke, the band's safely loud (you'll understand shortly why I say "safely" in this context) and Joe says, out of the blue "Man, I am just FARTIN' a storm here..." We all look at him and pretty much at the same time say "You too? Man! I thought it was just me!"
So we couldn't get away with that now.

Speaking of horses... I just realized it's nearly 11 here and I haven't let them out yet, and they're not banging to get out either... it's really cold out, and they have a lot of hay.
I better go shortly though, I got to clean those stalls.
