The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Last time I tried to run that on my computer, it kept acting up. I dunno if maybe I just don't have the graphics power for it or what.

It *is* a *very* nifty idea, though.

Heh. Olive green? Not sure about that. With the brick work? Not picturing that.

Seems that the satellite photos don't bother with the 1-meter and half meter stuff except for the cities and such.

Check out the strip in Vegas sometime. Looks like half-meter res. Gotta work for NSA to get it much cleaner than that... :-)

How exactly does a hamster fit into a ninja movie?

Oh, and here is the forest fire that threatened to wipe out Prescott a few years ago.

34°29'58.57"N, 112°29'38.51"W

If they don't get some rain soon, it's gonna be another scary fire season,

I can't seem to get Google Earth to be non fuzzy, I located my neighborhood, but it's all blurry. Is there something else I need to do?

Depending on the bandwidth and resolution, sometimes you gotta wait for the images to load.

No, it's not someone falling downstairs. It's Mr. Beepy's music. I think someone falling downstairs would be more musical.

Another place worth looking at is the Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor. The ship is clearly visible underwater. breathtaking.

I think many places they just don't have high-res imagery for. The resolution varies from place to place I think, depending on the vintage and the satellite and the mission at the time the photo was taken.

It's not a talking hamster, is it? That'd be just a little too weird. Not as weird as a ninja hamster, admittedly.
