Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

We used Win2K at the college...but had auto update enabled by the time I left, so I guess I tend to fergit about such things. That and most folks barely bothered with turning the computer on and off, let alone attaching any scary external USB devices.
Well...hopefully they just decided to wait until later in the week to make a decision, no? Here's hoping tomorrow's the day!
As for me...well, still no luck. I gotta start making decisions, and I don't like my options.

I don't want to even think what the costume for ~that~ superhero must look like....

Well, my reasoning is that I looked up our house which was built in Oct. 2001, and the neighborhood wasn't exactly all there... lots of mud and maybe a dozen houses built out of 1100 that are now in our neighborhood.
To: RMDupree
Oh dear...what a mental picture!
Didja hafta go and do that?
To: Peanut Gallery
Ah well, that would make sense then.
Hard to tell here since my neighborhood was built in the 80s.

Hmmm ... how old is your computer?
You may need to flash the BIOS. It'll hang on older VIA chipsets.

That was a good episode. Glad they gave some depth to Mr. Eku.
G'nite.

I might try messing about with the boot order in the bios. Maybe it's trying to look for a bootable system but is failing to complete the check somehow.

It was a very good episode!
I'm waiting to see how Mr. Eko and Mr. Locke get along together.

When this problem first cropped up, the problem USB drive was a printer. <grin> It had been included in the boot sequence ...
Silly wabbit didn't realize you can't boot to a printer!
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
We'll have to wait until Jen and Rosie see it to speak any more on the subject, but it was well worth the wait. :-D

Yeah, it might be the boot sequence. I had the thought that it may be trying to find the drive before the USB is enabled or something along those lines.
I'll set some time aside this weekend to check out the BIOS. Too tired to get started on it now. :~D

Work was better today, I take it?

Sounds like Rose has it pretty well nailed. Maybe too is that it's a USB 2 drive... and maybe your port is not? OR the port is but the BIOS isn't, BIOS gets cornfused. sumpthinurotherwise.
Dunno.
