Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Nothing but a rotten coconut, unfortunately.
I'd still like to see it happen somehow. As unlikely as it may be.

Someone with a lotta garage space needs to find half a dozen or so coconuts and try again! ;-)

I finally gave up on it sprouting after it sat in dirt for a year. We cut it open just for grins... it was disgusting on the inside :~\

My friend Lisa grew one in a pot for a long time... but she picked one up in Hawaii on the beach that already had a nubbins of a sprout on it..

Citrus canker is the real danger to Florida citrus! When there is an outbreak there is an embargo against our citrus fruit -- only the juice gets out-of-state!!

I'll have plenty of sprouters in the summer, but can't figure out how to get them there without incident.

Oh, that I do know. And completely agree with containment.
But it was a ~wee~ bit excessive to remove every citrus tree from private residences for miles and miles without one report of canker in the area.
And then basically making them impossible to replace.
I miss my Key Lime tree, can you tell?

You'd have to disguise it, probably.
Maybe carry it in a cat carrier, or dress it in baby clothes. ;-)
To: RMDupree; HairOfTheDog
I wouldn't make the effort, coconut palms require LOTS on LONG sunny days, with HIGH heat, and never a hint of frost -- that's why they won't grow even a couple of miles north of Palm Beach, without protection.
It would be easier to grow coffee or bananas in Seattle than coconuts!
To: RosieCotton
or dress it in baby clothes. ;-)If you saw a woman walking around cooing and cradling a coconut... Would you approach her on it? I wouldn't.

She grew it in the house as a house plant. It did good for awhile and was real interesting :~D

Heh...pretty as she is, she probably needs to do *something* anyway to ensure creeps don't bug her. That could work. ;-)

It's like people with imaginary chain saws... I leave them alone too ;~D

They wouldn't bug you anyway. It's 2J they like to spill their guts to.

OK, I hold each of you to blame if I have weird dreams of my kids turning into coconuts tonight!
Speaking of which, I'd better get to bed now. Dratted time zones....
Nighty night everyone! See you in the morning.
