Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Just got back from my lunch time walk. From all the tracks it looks like the deer and the turkeys had a convention going over the weekend.

The cat grass is up! And the cats have just noticed it and are all excited.
Could work!

FReminist = woman who can take care of herself = good thing.I read that whole thread last night, to message 770-something. Oy, what a nutjob GB is, and Magnum is sooo doctrinaire --- when it suits him.
Ladies, stop poking the mad thing!

The cat grass is up! *sigh* growing things. I need Spring already, durn it!

I'm determined to do herbs here, if'n all goes well and I'm still around. ;-) I betcha I could do it. Might have to start some of the trickier ones from seedlings instead of seeds, but there *must* be greenhouses and all in a town of this size!

Same here ... normally our neighbors buy enough ordinance to outshine the official fireworks show in our subdivision. They normally start firing the 26th and still have enough to last through the 4th or 5th. This year? This year I heard exactly two neighborhood fireworks.
I was so proud of my neighbors.

I've seen some of the gardens in Denver and the 'burbs. They're amazing! Herbs are sure to grow and do great. The higher altitude may make for cooler air, but it also means there's less pesky atmosphere in between a plant and it's precious EM spectrum.
if'n all goes well and I'm still around
I don't like that kind of talk. >:1

Heh. You'll be cleaning barfed-up grass in no time!

Oh joy...
I'm hoping they only deal with it when it's little. Seems like I never had trouble with that in the past, but they usually kept it down to just young shoots - nothing made it to full height.

Jane, get me off this crazy thing!

Maybe I'll commandeer half the pots that are out on the porch...or buy a coupla new ones.
It'd be nice to have more flowers this year, too. There must be some things that would pretty well bloom much of the summer, eh?
And there's always marigolds, at least for a time. I've always had good luck with those, even grown from seeds. Nice bright things, too!
To: RosieCotton
Yer in Colorado. Thou shalt grow columbines.
I love 'em. Bulbs do well there. Burpee has a bunch of varieties of marigods - including some single varieties that don't look much like a marigold (just for variety, ya know). Four o'clocks are easy, too. So are zinnias.
To: RosieCotton
Miss Cat's cat grass is over a foot tall and I've got seed heads on some of it.
'Course I'm planting a fairly big pot.

Will they grow in pots or window boxes?
Hm...soon as I get a job, I should start lookin' at Burpee's site, huh? Maybe they even have a free catalog I could request to look at in the meantime.
To: RosieCotton
*Everything* grows in pots and window boxes ... it's just in some cases you have to get bigger pots or window boxes. :P
I grew lots of bulbs (dahlias oh dahlias) and stuff in pots during my apartment daze.
These are calling my name this year:
