The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Calculating distance from unknown midwestern location to location near the eastern sea. :-)

I think I just need to clarify that there's not ~that much~ compensation...

;-)

Not just that, you have to pull up further ahead to keep your internal organs from taking on the resonant frequency. They're certainly doing damage.

Hey there!

Welcome to the Hobbit Hole! :-D

And yes, I can actually feel my innards vibrating to that heavy bass music. And not in a good way. ;-)

Like I said, it makes me literally dizzy - that kinda bass. Hard to think around it. Ugh.

That's okay, a true artist thinks more of their art than their compensation. :-)

I can't understand the attraction to it.

There's no real melody. It's not soothing or uplifting or fun to listen to.

It's angry and ugly, for the most part. But maybe it's all about what you like. A lot of folks hate country music, but I love it!

MouseMoot 2007!

Technically it would still be 2006. What we're ~talking~ about is leaving the day after Christmas, spending five days there and coming home on New Years Day.

We'd use my Marriott points and (hopefully) wife's bonus from thenewjob.

We would be disappointed if you didn't come see us whilst we were there (we'd at least have to meet ~somewhere~).

Ciao Bellezza,

I take it from some of your posts that you had a 'rockin'' New Year's Eve. Feeling better?

I hope it's a good 2006 for us all. In case you're wondering, I've resolved to be much nicer. Obviously, it's going to take a lot of work ;-)

I haven't been to Disney in ages. Broke my heart to hear that they dismantled 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. :-(

But Alyson's almost to the perfect age for it and Becky has only been once for the Christmas Celebration (didn't ride much because of the crowds).

I'm starting to like it too. I heard a song w/some country singer talking about his Mercury. It was so good while I was turning the dial and coming up with all kinds of vulgar stuff: "I like your pants around your ankles" - turns dial - "Gonna give you every inch of my love" - turns dial - Mercury song.

Had a bad thought that if it keeps going like this, with me getting more conservative by the day, listening to country, before long I might be dating a man who wears cowboy boots with a suit ;-)

Oh balderdash, chica! We've all been in thread-battles before. How many can claim to become friends afterwards though? *grin*

And take my advice....tequila is bad. Very bad.

Not such a bad thing if he's Mr. Right! ;-)

You musta heard The Mercury Song by Alan Jackson (one of my favorite country singers, BTW)

Well if I had money
Tell you what I’d do
I’d go downtown and buy a mercury or two
Crazy bout a mercury
Lord I’m crazy bout a mercury
I’m gonna buy me a mercury
And cruise it up and down the road

Well the girl I love
I stole her from a friend
He got lucky, stole her back again
She heard he had a mercury
Lord she’s crazy bout a mercury
I’m gonna buy me a mercury
And cruise it up and down the road

Well hey now mama
You look so fine
Ridin round in your mercury 49
Crazy bout a mercury
Lord I’m crazy bout a mercury
I’m gonna buy me a mercury
And cruise it up and down the road

Well my baby went out
She didn’t stay long
Bought herself a mercury, come a cruisin home
She’s crazy bout a mercury
Yeah she’s crazy bout a mercury
And cruise it up and down the road

Well if I had money
I tell you what I’d do
I’d go downtown and buy me a mercury or two
Crazy bout a mercury
I’m gonna buy me a mercury
And cruise it up and down the road

Not if you have a nice, large Lava Flow Margarita with friends. You know, I saw a bumper sticker once that read - Republican women are the life of the party. With your wimpy 2-tequila-shots-and-Im-out, I don't know.

I'm getting ready to go hit the couch and work on my calendar for the year. Thinking of putting a movie in. Got any good suggestions? I wonder if I could even make it to Bree...

In other news, I haven't even touched the work I brought home and promised Rasputin that I'd email to him.

Well, it's certainly not 'traditional good taste'. But I saw the picture of the President in his boots with his suit in the family's Christmas picture, and I loved the look, so much so that I bought myself a pair of cowboy boots that I fully intend to wear to work with my suits (just as soon as I summon the nerve). They're conservative-looking though, so I think I can swing it.
