Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Home is behind, the world ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Good Morning!
I've found that sometimes lying back with a warm wet towel on my face does wonders.
You should see the tide this morning! Wow! It's really high. Was at +13.2 about an hour ago. Gonna be even higher tomorrow. Remember the rock steps on the bulkhead? Only the top step was dry, and the ramp to the dock was going UP to the dock.

Cool! The tides were really amazing to me when I was there.
I'd just never seen such a dramatic change in water levels here. In the early afternoon, you could have a wedding on the beach and by late afternoon you were out on a boat in the same spot.

Good morning!
No headache fer me...I only had about half a glass of champagne.
Having sourdough toast for breakfast. Yesterday I *finally* had a loaf turn out as it shoulda. It's also the first time I said ta heck with a recipe, and just went on instict. Apparently I know better than any ol' book. ;-)
Ramius - mmmm...tide. I've love to live near an ocean again, at least for awhile. It's never dull!
To: RMDupree
Now you know why I was so concerned with the tide charts when setting the date and time ;~D

Yup. Changes in lattitudes... the further north you go the more change there is from low to high. At the equator there's very little tide. Florida's got what, about three feet or so of tide?
Total range here is about 15 feet... and up in Alaska it can be upwards of 25 feet or more. Makes anchorages a real bugger up there I can tell you...

Yeah. I was a bit puzzled by it at the time since I had no clue how significant it was.
I watched the Entmoot video again the other day. Reminded me of how different our oceans are.

Enjoy it! I thought it was very nicely done. It's made for a younger audience than LOTR, obviously...but man! Wish I could have seen it twenty years ago...
To: osagebowman
Oh! Most wonderful!
Enjoy it and be sure to check in with your thoughts when you all get back.

Three feet, if that. But Sam Cree would know exactly.
I live in Miami, but I'm lucky if I make it out to the beach once a year.

We're looking forward to it. I have the big book version of Narnia, all the books in one volume. Read the first story, good background for the movie, but wanted to see the movie before continuing.
We're off, the pony is jingling his harness and anxious to be off.
Yes, there's Bailey's in the coffee.
Yes, there's oil puddling in the street, enough that is a concern. OT will be heading back to the shop tomorrow AM.
