Merriam-Webster | 12/06/05 | Slip 18

Tuesday, December 6, 2005 Merriam Webster.com

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs again today. Beware !

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

VACUITY

Pronunciation: va-'kyü-&-tE, v&-
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural –ties
Etymology: Latin vacuitas, from vacuus empty

1 : an empty space
2 : the state, fact, or quality of being vacuous
3 : something (as an idea) that is vacuous or inane

Even though the French made the film, I want to see it. I'll go looking later on today.

I don't go to movie theatres at all. Yuck. Who's been sitting there before me. Ewwwwwww. I'd have to bring Clorox to the place.

Vapidly, say some,
the vacuity of some minds,
the vacuum,
the vast space echoing in volumnous emptiness,
longing to be filled,
freely fomenting
with fresh ideas,
vicous with variety,
instead vibrates with distant space.
Thus the mind of a teenager
with video controllor in hand.

Animal Planet seems to be the channel most often on the TV in this house and usually in my daughter's room.........I'have been hearing an ad for a couple of weeks now which uses the song "I'll be Home For Christmas" but I didn't know who's ad or promo it was until hubby informed me it was Animal Planet's own promo.

I finally saw it yesterday..........it's about a penguin who travels all over hill and dale to get home for Christmas, it really is cute.

Well, just dang, T5! You are so right about Hillary. She hasn't decided which way to go yet. Kind of like Humpty Dumpty.

A++++ for you. You are not going out working today, are you?

The penguin chicks are cute as all get-out.

Some even get eaten by predators.

Cyber works a whole whopping two miles from home. He leaves around 6:30 a.m., then gets home at noon so I can make him lunch. Then he works from here. LOL!

Thank you! I hope she has a great political fall and can't be reconstructed.

Yes, I'm headed out to work right now-fortunately I'm working indoors today-back later...

You have that little red x in there, but I will buy it. I always forget to take the videos back, so I might as well buy them. The cost is the same.

Sure makes life easier living that close. A lot of my neighbors commute into NYC. An hour to an haourr and a half proposition. Screw that! One of the reasons I took this job was to get away from my hour plus commute into Boston. Combat driving is no fun.

It's not a program - it's their holiday greeting - and it seems like it runs constantly :)
