Tuesday, December 6, 2005 Merriam Webster.com

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs again today. Beware !

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

VACUITY

Pronunciation: va-'kyü-&-tE, v&-
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural –ties
Etymology: Latin vacuitas, from vacuus empty

1 : an empty space

I don't know how working moms and dads do it either. My mom didn't work. She had enough on her hands.

And you're right about xs. She also has an acute sense of humor which helps, I'm sure.

that superwoman BS is just that. you do what you have to do, period. you make choices and that brings consequences. we feel strongly about the kids going to catholic school, xsbrownie has a learning disability, that means 3 kids in 3 diff schools with no transportation other than us, so we do what it takes. it is not a superwoman thing at all. and they aren't getting homecooked food more than 4 nights per week, i assure you! pizza, chinese, boston market etc are all helping to feed them

The unpopular contractor from the city my next door neighbors hired (most of us out here call him the Bob robber baron)is almost finished committing the atrocities he was hired for on the outside of their house-instead of a very pretty cedar-and-rock house, it now looks like a 2 story double-wide mobile home. can hardly wait to see what color they will paint it-neither hubby or I want to ask them because we are afraid of what they will say...

". . . she's merely getting around the root of the problem."

And the blonde jokes which p!ssed her off to no end.

Actually, when I first met Cyber he asked me to go a couple of shades lighter. My hairdresser did it a bit too much. My skin needs a darker color of hair because the blonde washes my skin color out unless I'm tan. And I don't go in the sun here.

Both hubby's and my young'uns used to shriek with delight if I was running late or forgot to take out meat to thaw and had to stop on the way from work and get Chinese take-out or pizza. But there was a Chinese place and a Pizza Hut just blocks away right on my way home, too-now the food would be stone cold if I stopped in the city to get it then drove the 30 miles home with it-I'd have to nuke it.

Does Bob put his sign up in front of the house for the atrocities he has committed?

remember our earlier talk about the shock jock, guys packing the wifes fdge, etc. When i was a kid, ther was a term called cornholing. It meant anal sex. That's what I thought of when I saw the carnal corn thing.

Stillthink it's yummy sounding?

I'm quite embarrassed to say this, but this is what Cyber wanted for dinner last night. I wasn't hungry. He had three courses: salad, grits and a Popcycle. LOL!

I frosted and bleached my hair as much as my laundry until 12-13 years ago when hubby asked me if I would put my hair back to it's natural red so he could see what it looked like. When I did, I decided I liked it, too and I haven't done anything to it but color the gray since. I can't picture you as a blonde, Slippie-probably because I never saw you as one.

I've never been a red headed person.

I'll post a photo of me in here when I was blonde. I'm still learning how to do it.

He didn't put one up for this one-but if it were me, I wouldn't, either-I'd be afraid no one would ever ask me to bid a job again-it takes a real negative talent to turn a nice home into a trailer park wannabe...

I hated my red hair when I was young-I wanted to be blonde like all the sweet, feminine girls who got the best dates, so I started frosting, then bleaching before I was even out of high school.

I honestly don't know how the working moms who live out here manage to juggle everything without ending up with a substance abuse problem.

I don't know how more working moms living anywhere don't wind up with such a problem.

I applaud women like you and XS, I honestly can not comprehend how you do it. I tend to prepare weekend meals around what I know the evening schedules are going to be for the rest of the week. Leftovers are not a problem in this house. I got into that habit when I was working and out for dinner 3-4 evenings a week when we still lived in Dover.

That habit has now come in very handy with our involvement with the Moose, and Jax in girl scouts, and hubby's absolutely unpredictable schedule of what time he will be getting home.
