Thank you for the update. Continuing prayers for the baby and family - and for those who received her organs.

Thank you for the update, continued thoughts and prayers to all involved, mom, baby, family... May God bless you all.

What a joy! A baby boy at this time of year? I believe the words go something like... "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done..."

Prayers for those sweet children. And I wouldn't care a bit if he found out what being beaten feels like from his friends in prison.

"And I wouldn't care a bit if he found out what being beaten feels like from his friends in prison."

It would appear that you got your wish. I just finished reading an e-mail update from Sarah's aunt, MJ. It seems that the perp wasn't welcome where he was jailed and has been since moved to another, after getting a taste of his own medicine from his fellow guests.

Final update on this story, for now.....

From last nights email update from my friend, MJ, Sarah's aunt....

"To my special friends,
In case some of you don't know, my niece Sarah's baby was born Monday, 12/12. A miracle of modern medicine. It was a bittersweet day, to say the least, saying good bye to my niece and hello to her baby, Josiah Darcey Fay. Sarah had already chosen the name Josiah and Darcey is the name of the young man who gave Sarah CPR for at least 20 minutes before the ambulance arrived on the day of her attack. They believe this action saved the baby. Josiah weighed 3.5 pounds, 16.5 inches long, and will be in the neonatal unit of the hospital until he is big enough to be released.

My sister and I arrived in Hawaii Thursday, 12/8. On Friday 12/9 I had one of the most moving experiences of my life. A Tibetan monk elder was teaching a class in Honolulu and heard about Sarah's story. He wanted to know if he could visit her in the hospital and pray for the baby. He was dressed in his red robes and was escorted by his interpreter and a friend of Sarah's. He sat in a chair with his red prayer beads and started to chant for 40 minutes. There were 11people in the room. My sister and I stood on one side of Sarah. I held her hand and my sister was touching Sarah's head and chest. My nephew Mike and his wife Carie were on the other side of the bed and a good friend of Sarah's stood at the end of the bed and touched her feet. Everyone else was standing behind us. I didn't know what the monk was saying, but it was mesmerizing. (For those of you that grew up in the "old" Catholic church with the Gregorian Latin chants, it was a similar sounding prayer.) When he finished the man was perspiring like he'd run a marathon. The room was filled with an aura of calm and peace.

On Saturday we flew to the The Big Island and my sister gave us the "Sarah" tour of part of the island near Hilo and Pahoe where Sarah had lived. We met the detectives on the case. We also met Darcey who gave Sarah CPR. My sister's family wanted to ask him if he'd mind that they gave the baby his name for the baby's middle name. He jokingly said that it was such a "sissy" name and he had to contend with being teased about it all his life.

We will never understand why Sarah was with such a person or why she didn't let us know what was happening to her. Domestic violence is a silent epidemic and we are all going to become proactive in learning more and DOING more about domestic violence so other families won't have to endure such a wasteful tragedy as Sarah's.

There are a couple of links to a few more stories about Sarah being an organ donor. One of the recipients went public about receiving one of Sarah's kidneys. Some of Sarah's friends she grew up with are working on a Sarah Marie Fay website. I'll keep you posted when it goes live.

Fran (my sister) and I stayed in Honolulu until late Thursday, 12/15 to tie up loose ends. Also Fran had to go to court to legally become the baby's guardian until it's decided which of her children will adopt the baby. I was her chauffeur.

She had her third chemotherapy treatment this past Monday. As were were sitting there during her treatment she commented to me that chemo is nothing compared to what she'd just been through losing Sarah. I know she will win her cancer battle. Sarah's other two children are doing as well as can be expected. They live with their father in California. They are adjusting to their new school. My sister talks to them several times a week. We heard from one of Sarah's friends that the subhuman who did this to Sarah was beaten in jail and had to be moved to a different one........

(**some personal stuff**)

your friend,
MJ"

Thank you, dear FRiends for your thoughts and prayers. Fran, MJ and their families will be receiving your messages as soon as I put them together and deliver them.

You made Sarah's final hours seem so sweet and serene. I hope she felt that too. She would be so touched by your love! May Josiah and his siblings grow up with that same kind of love surrounding them. God bless those children and all of Sarah's friends and family!

As promised (a while back) an update on the Sarah Fay ordeal. Final update from my e-mail today:

Hi my great and dear friends!
Good news about my great-nephew Josiah Darcey Fay. He is finally out of the hospital and at home in Denver with his new parents (my nephew and godson) Mike and Carie Fay. They officially adopted Josiah and just returned from Hawaii with their little bundle of joy. I'm attaching some photos. He is a cutie pie, that's for sure. Here's an article in today's Honolulu Star Bulletin.
http://starbulletin.com/2006/01/18/news/story04.html

In case you are interested, CBS Morning News will be interviewing Mike on Thursday morning (tomorrow). I don't know what time but sometime during that program, which starts at 7 a.m. in Chicago. The website set up about Sarah is active now. It hasn't been updated lately but there will be more stories and photos of Sarah.

HONOLULU -- Josiah Darcy Fay was born prematurely five weeks ago to a brain dead mother who was severely beaten on the Big Island. Doctors released the infant on Monday.

Doctors at Queen's Medical Center gave Fay to his mother's brother, Mike, from Denver, and Mike's wife. They plan to raise Josiah.

Josiah was with his new mom, Carie, in a hotel. He weighs 5 pounds 6 ounces. That's about 2 pounds more than when he was born to his brain-dead mother, Sarah.

The family is heading to Denver on Tuesday.

"I feel blessed to be able to raise a baby like that. I mean, he's like a little miracle. He was inside my sister and she was just a wonderful, wonderful mother. And unfortunately, her life was ended short by domestic violence. So, to be blessed, it's bittersweet. You know? The only part of my sister left in this world physically is Josiah. So, I'll take that," Mike Fay said.

Mike and his wife married just a few months ago. Now they have a tiny baby to care for.

"She's great. She's going to be, already is, a beautiful, wonderful mom. She's very loving and caring and she's extremely excited, as I am," Mike Fay said.

He said that Josiah will probably return to these islands where he was born one day.

"I think so. He was born here. My sister, his mother, his original mother, was drawn for a reason and I think that has to be a part of his life," Mike Fay said. "It's a beautiful place. It's very special. He's going to know about it. We'll be back at some point."

Doctors and nurses kept Sarah Fay, 34, alive artificially for two weeks so that her baby could reach eight months in the womb. The extra time gave the infant a better chance to be strong enough to survive.

The father of the baby, Marwann Jackson, 24, has been charged with murder in the case. Jackson had a long police record with several violent crime convictions.

Sarah Fay had a 10-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter. They are now with their father on the mainland.
