Hi, Es:
"The Band" was a group of musicians that gained fame and notoriety backing up Bob Dylan on his "Underground Tapes" back in the late 1960s. Musically, I think they were the predecessors of Credence Clearwater Revival.
They cut several albums and singles in the US during the early and mid 1970s. Including "The Weight", "Up On Cripple Creek" and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". Mixing electric guitars with organs, brass, drums, dobros, harmonicas and sometimes a full orchestra as back-up.
Martin Scorcese made an excellent Documentary on "The Band" and its members, Robbie Robertson, Levon Helms, Garth Hudson, Rick Danko and Richaed Manuel in 1978 titled "The Last Waltz" during their farewell tour.
Jack.
PS: I admire Eric Clapton immensely, Es. His best work was with The Yardbird, Dominoes and Cream. Would love to see him get back to his Blues/Rock roots. I just think it's a crime to have a hard driving piece of music like "Layla" or "I Ain't Got You" slowed to a snail's pace and ruined by full blown Orchestration.
Jack.
Well between reading these posts and doing some online research about the type of person who can't tolerate noise, I find that I am really in the minority. I might just be rigid, too conservative, too introverted and perhaps even too easily intimidated.
I can't imagine how the future is going to be when everything is so loud now. I think it will only get worse because as I observed, statistics show that the incidence of deafness and hearing problems is rising steadily. Loudness rules. Ugh!
Fun thread though.
Thanks everyone. Its late and I have to hit the hay. Talk amongst yourselves. Quietly of course. :O>
I listen to it because I like this guy's voice.
What you need to do is listen to some of the softer songs out there like "Nothing Else Matters" or "A Tout Le Monde." Not all rock or metal is loud and fast. But I understand about being forced to listen to music you hate; I had to listen to generic pop music when I worked at a supermarket.
Excellent track. World In My Eyes was another wicked groove off that album. Great album actually, with many classics on it. I have Precious (Sasha Remix) currently playing, by random coincidence...
