I was offering a solution that's unhackable. Router logs can only be faked using proxys, which by viewing a log you could detect since all hits are going to be to the same or similiar URLs.

You come across like a Doctor trying to explain what is wrong, using only medical terms.

I was trying to provide a sensible solution that a non-techy could use. I have been around long enough to know that nothing is really "unhackable".

I'd recommend against this sort of thing. While it's good to know what your teenagers are up to, I daresay, (as someone who was a teenager not all that long ago) that there are probably a number of things you'd be better off not knowing.

Sound advice.

Never ask a question unless you know you want the answer.

I have friend who got a keystroke filter put on his computer because his daughter chatted a lot. He din't catch her doing anything but he did catch his wife writing a seamy love letter to one of her co-workers.

So, he wants to check up on his kids and ends up getting divorced.

They know I'm going to install a program so it's all out in the open.

If you do this, wait a month or two until they stop looking for it.

I'd pop in the windows CD, boot to the repair console, and delete/rename a critical DLL for the logger in under 3 minutes.

Booting to the recovery console requires an administrative password. If you have that, you hardly need to boot to the console in the first place.

... I do not think that this type of software is a good idea.

Kids should be able to have private conversations without their parents reading it.

I understand you don't like the idea, but why do you think it's "bad?"

Also, why do you think kids should be able to use family assets to have "private conversations?"

Damn, why don't you just plant a chip in their heads so you can read their every thought. Good try but, try communication first.

What was the point of this comment? You know there's no such thing as a mindreading chip.

It's pretty obvious they are communicating, but the parent is concerned the child may be less than totally honest.

That seems like a straightforward and reasonable concern to me.
