To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list. Thanks.Roman calçada road discovered in Santa Catarina (Tavira)It was at the beginning of summer that historian Luís Fraga da Silva discovered, purely by chance, a small stretch of a roman road, in the location of Montes e Lagares, around 500 metres from the multi-sports centre of Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo, in the municipality of Tavira. The 75 metres of calçada which are being uncovered would be of little interest if it was not for the fact that they form part of an ancient roman road which connected the Algarvian peoples of Ossónoba (Faro) and Balsa (Tavira) to the cities of Pax Júlia (Beja) and further to the north, to Salacia (Alcácer do Sal)... The investigators further knew that there would exist another ramification of this road that conected to Myrtillis (Mértola) and that these roads had been utilised until the XVIII century. In the case of the road now identified in Santa Catarina, it is still used today, being known locally as "Calçada dos Mouros".

Most interesting.
Who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows, only time?
