For those not familiar with F@H -> some diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer and even "mad cow" disease are believed to be linked to protein (mis)folding.

A scientist team at Stanford University studies this phenomenon to try and find a cure to these diseases. Due to the enourmous amount of computing power needed, they designed a software (folding@home) which enables people to donate unused power from their computer to the project.

So we do have a team now? Cool. What do I do to get on it? I've already got the software installed.

HOLY COW! I've just been given the Work Unit from Hell!!! It takes three days per page, and five hundred pages. It's due to be completed in SEPTEMBER, 2010.

Anybody know what's up here? Do you lose everything if you quit before it finishes the unit? Because, like, I will be astonished if this machine is still running in five years, let alone without a reboot.

Can you carry over SETI@Home work units? It didn't seem so, and I've got about 7700 completed. It seemed a bit of a disappointment.

Fascinating.

Does your Mom know you ripped off her calculator?

Never mind, she's here.. I'll ask.

Glad I found this thread.

I started the FR F@H group over a year ago. All of the (old) computers listed are friends of mine that let me maintain their systems.

Uriah has one screaming machine. He has already broken top 10 in only a couple of weeks.
