Jim Smith, one of the founders of the Craftsman Truck Series and defending owners' point champ, has shut down Ultra Motorsports, citing lack of sponsorship. This comes at a bad time for defending CTS champ Ted Musgrave, as most teams have their drivers set. He does point out that he does have first dibs at the champ's provisional, which would be very helpful to a new team.

This gives a late Christmas present to Rob Ferguson and his #24 Mighty Motorsports team (the 32nd and last team to attempt all 25 races). With the #1, Ultra #2 (not to be confused with the Evernham #2 that Erin Crocker's running, unless he bought the owners' points from Smith) and the Orleans #62 not running the 2006 season, the 2 full-season field-fillers from 2005 (the #24 and the Sutton Motorsports #02) will have guaranteed starting spots in the first 4 Truck races.

If you're watching the Skins game, Smoke and Jr are on the sidelines. I guess it comes in handy to have a friend who works for the team owner who also owns a football team!
