(Word via Jayski, commentary mine because he's too hard on himself) - NASCAR changed their minds (again) on the guaranteed spots for the first 5 races. If the dissolved #77 (34th in the final 2005 owners' points) stays dissolved, the #4 (36th in 2005 owners' points) WILL GET the 35th and last guaranteed spot. Take THAT, Kodak.

Meanwhile, the Jayski news-and-rumor mill is alive and kicking -

• Dale Earnhardt Jr, who had wrist surgery a few days ago, will not miss Daytona testing.
• Bobby Hamilton Jr will likely stay at the Tide Slide (rumors had been he was released and that either Travis Kvapil or Ricky Craven would go in)
• Morgan Shepherd won the 4th-quarter National Motorsports Press Association/Pocono Spirit Award (Michael and Buffy Waltrip won the first quarter, Jeff Gordon won the 2nd quarter, and the NASCAR community won the 3rd quarter). The winner of the year will be announced at the NMPA convention in January.
• Going back to the #4, Todd Bodine turned them down, and Kvapil's name has entered the sweepstakes. Scott Wimmer is still the leading candidate.
