San Fran's problems started in 1994 when they signed a dozen mercinaries for the express and stated reason to beat Dallas. The bulk of the mercs were signed to one year deals and paid tons of bucks which is still haunting them today. They mortgaged their long range future in doing that.That and the NFL realized Eddie DeBartolo was cheating on the salary cap by playing his better players under the table.

There are more than a dozen backs that could easily move them into the 110-yd/game range. You really can not blame Westbrook for not getting the ball handed to him and you can not blame Westbrook for some atrocious offensive line run blocking.
At what? 10-14 touches a game for most of the season and too many of those touches he has been buried in the backfield. It won't matter who is running the ball. Shaun Alexander wouldn't post better numbers with that few touches and that poor of blocking.
No this is clearly on Reid's shoulders for running such an unbalanced offense.
