For whatever the reason, celebrities lead interesting lives that most of us can't even fathom (or would want to.) But how many of us have had the opportunity to meet someone famous, witness someone famous doing something outrageous or knows someone who has and would like to share that experience......here.
My only experience was when I was 19 and in Aspen for the weekend. I was waiting for my family in the lobby of the Hotel Jerome and Arnold Swartzenegger came in. He gave me the up/down look and smiled (MUCH has changed since then!) Then Maria walked in and the flirting was over. Sigh...
Yep he's a cutie! I met him while on vacation in South Dakota.
I met Rob Schneider last year when he was in Iraq. Nice guy too.
I met Cal Ripken at an autograph signing and talked with him for a minute and then at a later session, he recognized me and asked how my Pony League team was doing (we were 10-0) at that point :)
I had the opportunity to meet Kurt Angle when I was a wrestler in High School. One of the coaches had wrestled with him at Worlds back in the mid 90s. Another nice guy. Very focused too.
And I shook hands with Jim Rome at the 'Nati Tour Stop in 2003 :)
Not a "celebrity", but about a month after the Jon Benet Ramsey murder, I was at an Italian restaraunt in Boulder when John & Burke Ramsey came in (sans Patsy). You literally could have heard a pin drop.
Standing in line for the log ride at Six Flags, 1973. I was 8 years and knew the man in line in front of us was familiar. After a few seconds, I realized I recognized him from my football cards, and that it was Len Dawson. He was real nice and signed an autograph, showed us his Super Bowl ring and chatted with us while we waited. Although I was, and still am a Bears fan, I always had a soft spot for the Chiefs.
James Garner attends many OU football games. When I was a little kid, we had tickets on the front row behind the players. Mr. Garner walked by and tousled my hair. My dad mentions this from time to time.
Neat idea. My daughter and I had a table next to Ted Nugent and his family at Ninfa's restaurant in Waco about a year ago. I didn't have the nerve to approach them -- they kept their eyes strictly to themselves with a "do not approach us" body language. Can't say as I blame them.
I take it Ninfa's isn't a vegetarian restaraunt. ;o)
The guy who played Scott Farkus (yellow eyes) and a couple of other actors from "A Christmas Story" were just here in Galena to visit the local High School. I saw him at the airport as I was flying out. Pretty nice guy. he was describing how scenes in the movie were done.
My dad used to play pro baseball so I met a few of the old Brooklyn Dodgers over the years before my dad died. I met Pee Wee Reese and Dizzy Dean at a Dodger/Giant game at Candlestick when I was about 10. Went into the spartscaster booth and everything. I know I met a lot more players but I was a young child and that was 45 years ago.
I shook John Elway's hand and got an autograph in Barcelona, Spain during an American Bowl game in 94. (or 95)
I shook President Kennedy's hand at the Whiskeytown Dam dedication ceremony near Redding California ... a few months before he was assassinated.
I shook President Bush 1's hand at March AFB when AF1 flew in there on a campaign stop.
I declined to go meet Al Gore when AF2 flew into Beale AFB during the CA floods in 96. I watched him walk off the plane.
I met, talked and had drinks with Dashing Dasher ...resident FReeper race pilot.
So much for my brushes with celebrities.
Ninfa's is a Mexican restaurant, and a darn good one! Xena's Guy opted to go there for his birthday last week. (Not what I'd have picked, but hey, he's a guy.)
Rock stars, politicians, billionaires, movie stars, more than I could ever name. Even some famous dems. Never once was anyone rude to me.
Partial list:
Most intimidating presence: Newt Gingrich, Henry Kissinger.
Ugliest: Slash from Guns and Roses.
Most apologetic: Neil "Crazy Horse" Young who ironically apologized for the behavior of his dinner guest (rich and famous businessman).
Funniest: Robert Goulet who talked about peeing his tights on stage.
Most historic figure: Rosa Parks, served her family brunch one day.
Richest: Bentson Ford. (Just a guess).
Most powerful politicians: Presidents Ford, Carter. Seen Bush I & II in person but did not meet. I was offered to serve Clinton/Gore at the G7 but declined.
Biggest losers: (In the news today) Jeffery Fieger, Jim Blanchard.
Most talented: Yitzhak Perlman, Neemi Järvi.
Prettiest: Dem Leslie Ann Warren.
Dumbest: Most of the NHL, NFL, MLB, and NBA players, Joe Dumars, Steve Yzerman excepted.

I loved Titus! I was going to ask him about that show but he was talking people about "A Christmas Story" so I didn't interrupt.

I've met Cal Ripkin (Jr.). My hubby coached girls softball with his brother so that was neat.
Also Newt Gingrich at an Easter service in DC. That man has *presence.* And Raymond Arroyo (EWTN) at the March for Life one year. Saw John McCain in the airport once, heh.
Growing up, a cute little movie called Murphy's Romance was filmed in my hometown. My cousin was in the PD and did security for the ranch set. He snuck me in and I sat in James Garners' 'director's chair'... Sally Field's, too. But that doesn't count as meeting them. :P
I observed Red Ted Turner at an event at The Citadel one fall a long time ago, i.e., pre-Fonda (it must have been a parent's weekend). His youngest son was in my brother's company. He is tall and slender, and as you might expect, quite cold and aloof. I had no desire whatsoever to approach or speak with him.
Great show.
1. Sat next to Jim Carrey on a plane.
This was early in his career - In Living Color had just come out and he was graciously signing autographs for the Flight Attendants - we were in first class.
I said to him, "I have no idea who you are." as a way to make him feel - I don't know... Safe? And he looked at me and said, "I have no idea who you are either!"
Which cracked me up.
2. Dinner one night in Hollywood.
Pierce Brosnan, Billy Idol and Terry Bradshaw were all at the same restaurant. All do-able.
3. Barry Bonds.
I see him around town quite a bit - but one night, we were in a Benihana (my friends and I go there for the giggles). Well, Barry gets up from his table to use the restroom and I sent about 10 9 year olds in after him. "HEY!! Did you see Barry Bonds - He went in there!!!"
Tee Hee.
4. Goose Gossage.
I first saw him at an A's game and he nodded at me. I nearly fainted. Goose was a STAR with the Yankees when I was a kid and I was starstruck. Deep sigh.
Then, about a year later - we were both speaking at the same conference (he had the bigger crowd) and he actually said he remembered me. I thought that was probably BS - but sweet.
5. Went to college with Boomer Esiason.
I used to ... nevermind, I think that's still illegal.
6. Went to college with Len Bias - we used to call him the Celtic Rose. (what does Len Bias have in common with a Rose? Three days after you pick 'em - they're dead - bad joke, I know)
7. I actually dated a guy that became a professional wrestler - boy, was my mom proud of that fact!
8. Chuck Yeager and Bob Hoover
Famous Aviators... sigh. When I met Bob, I asked him if I could kiss his ring... he chuckled and was very sweet. Chuck cut in line at a starbucks for coffee.
9. Astronauts
Curt Brown, Hoot Gibson, Steve Oswald, and hopefully many more...
10. Harvey Pitt
I met Harvey Pitt last month at an event.
