Some may have clicked on this, thinking the topic was about low frequency communications systems for submarines, or something else entirely. My apologies.

I remember seeing a news article about Gerald Bull's assassination at the time it happened (late 1980s, I was at a conference north of Chicago). That motivated me to get a couple of books about him. Troubled man, but brilliant and fascinating. One of his pallbearers was Larry Hovis, best known for his role on "Hogan's Heroes".
