In order, I rank the greatest TV sitcoms of all time like this:
1. I Love Lucy (the template for all sitcoms)
2. The Honeymooners
3. Seinfeld
4. Barney Miller
5. M.A.S.H.
6. Cheers
7. Taxi
8. The Andy Griffith Show
9. Hogan's Heroes
10. Gilligan's Island
Honorable mention:
All in the Family
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Cosby
The Odd Couple
McHale's Navy
The Phil Silvers Show
Night Court
Friends
Gomer Pyle, USMC (early years)
Family Matters (early years)
Home Improvement
The Beverly Hillbillies
Three's Company
The Jeffersons
Happy Days
Dick Van Dyke
Coach
Green Acres
(NOTE: Omitted from the above lists were shows that were more "situation" than "comedy", such as 'Leave it to Beaver', 'The Donna Reed Show', 'Father Knows Best', etc. Also omitted were animated shows such as The Flintstones, South Park, The Simpsons, and Family Guy.)
(P.S. I am old enough to have watched all of the above shows during their first run with the exception of Lucy, The Honeymooners, and The Phil Silvers Show, all of which I caught fully in reruns. The above lists are strictly from memory, so I hope I didn't leave out anything obvious. Have fun.)
WKRP in Cincinnati had its moments, too.
I noticed your account has been suspended!!! Did you get one too many "tickets"? Some folks around here need thicker skins. :-)
Shhhh.......
Ya tryin' to give me away?
I always sneak back in when JimRob and the mods ain't lookin'........
I remember that one. Peggy Cass, Jack Weston (sp) and some monkeys? Another one I remember (barely) was a show called 'Harrigan'. I think I remember it mainly because of the theme song. H, A, double R, I.... G A N spells "Harrigan"....
Good list, but I'd add Married With Children, and for M*A*S*H I'd say only the first four (maybe five) seasons-after that it turned from a comedy to Alan Alda's personal liberal talking post.
She reminds me of Pam Dawber from 'Mork and Mindy'.
By the way, anybody mentioned ALF yet?

Don't be so literal. Of course, many at FR have no sense humor or irony and can't understand sarcasm or anything complex.
Jerry/Elaine/Kramer/George, aren't role models. We're supposed to laugh at them NOT with them. On the last episode they actually put in Jail for being such awful people.
Hey, and I think people can be involved in the world, raise a family, hold down a job AND watch a little TV, - AND horrors - maybe toss down a couple of drinks on Saturday night - ALL at the same time.
I'd agree.
Funny thing is, Will Smith is ten times better as an actor than a rapper, which is how he started out.
While you do raise some points:
1-get a life and lighten up
2-I watched a lot of these shows and laughed at them, but that never made me a liberal
3-go watch the '700 Club' if you want, but stop insulting every poster on this thread
Nobody's mentioned South Park yet??
I saw Reno 911 for the first time last week-hilarious!
Yes, that was one of the better ones of the '90s.
Can't believe it took 151 posts to mention Drew Carey!
Sanford and Son,
car 54 where are you?
ANDY GRIFFITH,
The Dick Van Dyke show.
haven't checked out sitcoms from the past couple of decades
all that much. Humor seems to have changed. Seem like a lot of stuff strikes me as "smart assed" these days. Different writers?
for instance ...there was episode of "Get Smart" where maxwell smart was questioning these people and one of the people kept insisting he was Swiss cuckoo clock maker And not a Nazi War Criminal. And when war criminal again insisted he was just a swiss cuckoo clock maker...a cuckoo clock he had with him struck three and rather than little bird popping out and going "cuckoo" a little wood carving of Adolf Hitler popped out and went "seig heil!" three times.
Mel Brooks written all over it.
Don't think that gag would fly these days.
It would upset people.
Ah! Pam Dawber! She was the only reason I watched that show. I never did develop a taste for Robin Williams. Another one would be Tool Time, with Patricia Richardson.
Get on over to Ebay. They have almost every episode on DVD. I've bought seasons 2,3 and 8 and plan to get more.
That's Matthew Lesko. He has late-night commercials about how to get "free" government money. And he actually wears that stupid question mark suit on TV.
