To: Knitting A Conundrum; All

Can anyone help me understand yarnovers? Or maybe a website that explains them well? I'm having a heck of a time with them.

I picked up the Readers Digest Knit and Crotchet Stitch Library and they have some really neat lace stitches, but the yarnovers throw me. My stitches come out all mangled looking.

When I get to the row below the yarnover do I knit/purl it just like it were a regular stitch? I think that is where I am getting confused.

Thanks!

I don't know if it differs depending on the pattern, but the one I'm doing, the yo gets knitted as a normal stitch.
