In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
carceral \KAHR-suh-rul\ adjective
of, relating to, or suggesting a jail or prison
Example sentence:
When James first glimpsed his new campus, he thought there was something rather carceral about the school's tall wrought-iron fence.
Etymology: Describing a painting of John Howard visiting a prison in 1787, writer Robert Hughes reminds us that Howard was "the pioneer of English carceral reform" (Time Magazine, November 11, 1985). Huges might have said "prison reform," but what about Vladimir Nabokov, when, in his inimitable prose, he describes a prison scene in Invitation to a Beheading: "The door opened, whining, rattling and groaning in keeping with all the rules of carceral counterpoint." Here we find "carceral" not only practical but practically poetical. An adjective borrowed directly from Late Latin, "carceral" appeared shortly after "incarcerate" ("to imprison"), which first showed up in English around the mid-1500s; they're both ultimately from "carcer," Latin for "prison."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Whipped crean on top, I am stocked up with that as well.
with an empty nest no marshmellows, too sweet for me. Have you tried the Land of Lakes hot chocolate?
I'm not in favor of censorship either, but Google could inform the Googler that there is some porn in whatever you are looking up. Or have an asterisk if there is porn.
HAH!! Nice tagline!!
The marshmallow in the jar is good, too, if you just happen to run out of the minis. Although it sounds like you are very well stocked.
i am cold-free as is xshub, knock on wood.
Yeow,,,,,,,, modo is on Fox....and talking about Judy Miller.....she needs to shut up.
they put her on FOX????
We have some products in our grocery store with Land O' Lakes, but not their hot chocolate. Our brand is Shamrock Farms. The chocolate milk is to die for. It's from cows around here. Local enormous dairy, and it's also our Diamondbacks farm team sponsor.
Just turned on Fox. She is one miserable woman.
She's selling her book, "Are Men Needed" or something like that. The cover looks like a Sam Spade book.
Rupert Murdoch is hedging his 2008 bets
I loved it when he asked her about her mother's suggestion that she retitle her book "Why men are necessary"....guess her mother tried with her. LOL
She probably was something back in the day, of course that was before electricity....
how old is she anyway, she doesn't look ancient exactly?
She's probably not all that old, it's just a joke I like to use.
