In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
carceral \KAHR-suh-rul\ adjective
of, relating to, or suggesting a jail or prison
Example sentence:
When James first glimpsed his new campus, he thought there was something rather carceral about the school's tall wrought-iron fence.
Etymology: Describing a painting of John Howard visiting a prison in 1787, writer Robert Hughes reminds us that Howard was "the pioneer of English carceral reform" (Time Magazine, November 11, 1985). Huges might have said "prison reform," but what about Vladimir Nabokov, when, in his inimitable prose, he describes a prison scene in Invitation to a Beheading: "The door opened, whining, rattling and groaning in keeping with all the rules of carceral counterpoint." Here we find "carceral" not only practical but practically poetical. An adjective borrowed directly from Late Latin, "carceral" appeared shortly after "incarcerate" ("to imprison"), which first showed up in English around the mid-1500s; they're both ultimately from "carcer," Latin for "prison."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
I only like the originals. I see they have new vanilla ones.
You don't use any sweetner in your coffee?
I love multigrain cheerios - not completely sweet, just a hint..... just like my Marine.... ;^)
no, cream only. i can't stand the aftertaste from a sweetened coffee be it sugar or artificial. and i don't like flavored coffees either.
You're too kind, but it's a word we used for car accidents when I was about 10 or so. I don't believe it's a mainly Canaduh word.
i guess i like my men without sweetening just like i like my coffee unsweetened ; ) i guess i am just cursed with the gag reflex....
:^)
"Dating" Tony Dorsett will do that to you.
Darn you ruined my joke..... I was going to say you liked your coffee the same as your men...... strong and black...lol
Hey...got the thumbs-up on the Friday deal....
Argh have you ever tried the coffemate flavored creamers - dry - like chocolate? The cold ones cool my coffee off too much and I like it hot! But that is what I use, chocolate creamer - the sugar is already in it
/gag
I'm deeply saddened by this outcome.
Bri and I had the worst coffee ever on our trip - I mean it didn't even taste like coffee - McDonalds screwed up when they let that idiot woman sue them for the coffee burn -
mcdonalds coffee is horrendous.
I was referring to regular flavour powdered Coffeemate. (I hardly ever drink coffee anyway). By "cool ones", do you mean they make a liquid Coffeemate now? (Chocolate and coffee is a pretty good combination).
Look at your supermarket where you buy regular coffeemate - see if they offer several flavored ones...... and yes, in the dairy case, near milk, they have flavored liquid, cold creamer by coffeemate......
I haven't eaten a bowl of cereal in 30 or so years. Yuck. I hate grain. Grain is what cows eat so we can eat them.
When I drink coffee (which is rare), it has to be one-third half and half and one blue package of sweetener.
Water is for plants and grass. Water would make my pipes rusty.
Okay. I've said it.
I like my coffee Janice Rogers Brown style, strong and black.
