The acceleration begins softly, imperceptably.

If one were holding his hand out, he would feel it grow heavier. The trained student of the heavens, observing the changing scene above, would notice the slight differences in the angles of suspension of the Habitats.

No one misses the brilliant flares from the Gas-Cooled Nuclear Reactor/Rocket Engines, as they take turns gently maneuvering the gargantuan rig.

In a counter-rotating Pod on the Thrust Ring, two images are lined up in a viewer. Across the width of the Thrust Ring, parallax gives an accurate measurement function. The controls are locked on the appropriate setting, and the time value dialed in.

Trans-Lunar Insertion, the acceleration maneuver that will take us out of Earth orbit, and on toward the moon, has begun.
