My grandmother was also very young, 15 and sent over in an arranged marriage that lasted over 50 years. She was very big in the Orthodox Church on Huntington Avenue in Boston and part of the group that sponsored Makarios of Cyprus when he went to B.U.

1922? Your grandmother must have been fleeing the Turks, eh? '22 was the year the Turks burned Smyrna

My Aunt Lydia wrote an obscure book about it, "Smoldering Smyrna", long out of print, AFAIK.

Yup, her and her mom were the only surviving members of their immediate family. Five brothers and her dad - gone...and numerious other family members.
