I'm sorry to say my closest Greek friend is a foam-at-the-mouth "progressive."
Congressman Mike Bilirakis of Florida is a Greek conservative republican.
Debate? What's the debate? It's all Bush's fault!
Greek-American conservative here.
And I do know a few others.
There's nothing more powerful than a US/Greek/conservative cabal
When our old-country fam kept going on and on about how great it was in England because they had universal health care, we just started saying, "Here's the phone. Call and make a reservation to go back. We'll visit you at Christmastime."
Yeah, we're out there, but on the endangered species list...
Yeah, I've got that one covered. Over there the old "envelope full o' cash" will get you a hospital bed quicker with that setup, too....
True. Debate = NO. Unhinged emotionalism = YES and Yes again.
I think the hardest thing to get past is the notion that if you're not Democrat, you're not "Greek" enough. That those wascaly Wepublicans are too "American-ized".
Yes. Paternal grandfather arrived from Lesvos in 1888, grandmother from Smyrna (Izmer) in 1900.
George H.W. Bush's 1988 campaign in Massachusetts was run by Peter Senopoulos, whose father was an old friend.
Greek joke (a good one, not the kind we got into schoolyard fist fights over):
What do you get when there are 12 Greeks in one room discussing politics?
24 opinions. Bada-boom!
Thank you, Metesky! There is hope!
Yes, I'm Greek and very conservative. I know what you're saying there are a lot of Stephanopolis, fuzzy headed liberal Greeks out there.
nikos vlachos
I suspect that you simply live in a very "Liberal" area, and that most of the ethnic groups in your area are "Liberal." It may have very little to do with the Greek background.
Yasou Niko!
Thanks!
Yes, NYC metro area (don't get no more blue than that, except for San Fran), but there are a few of us here.
Very interesting, thank you!
Yup. MEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEME!!!! And I live in one of the most BLUE states ever - Kalifornic - The Land of the Fruits and Nuts! Have family back at another Blue state, Taxxachusetts. ;)

My paternal grandmother also from Smyrna, 1922, as a very young girl though.
