Word For The Day, Tuesday, November 1, 2005, MAMMON

November 1, 2005, Tuesday

HAPPY ALL SAINTS DAY!
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

MAMMON

Noun often capped:
Pronunciation: ma/men accent on the first syllable
Etymology: Greek mamona

1) Material wealth or possessions especially having evil power or debasing influence: wealth, money.

Those frightening mommons, little deamons, princesses, pirates and such were at the home last night en masse. Their dentists are not going to be happy.

We have forgotten the Queen of the Coquette's birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SEADRAGON.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

RULES: You must use the WFTD in a sentence for an A. For a + after your “A,” you must bring in a link of the word usage or something funny, a poem or some prose that will elucidate the word for us.

If you need to know how to link, come to the Subbie’s desk in the front of the class. Also, if I like your sentence, poem or prose, you just may get an A++++. Depends on my mood. F quadruple minuses are usually saved for Arghie, but it could just happen to you.

Mammon?
Oh, I live on the corner of Crosseus and Mammon.
Belial is my neighbor, nice enough fellow, if one doesn't count the smouldering heap of whimpering souls in the backyard..

I know it's rough the day after Halloween. But today is a new day.

Naaah.

My Halloween celebrations are only slightly more effusive than those for Kwanzaa.

Happy that MY STILLERS DODGED A BULLET LAST NIGHT!

Mammon!
How I love ya
how I love ya
My dear old Mammon

I love the green-back bills,
and the big T-
Bills that pay 8 per cent now

Mammon
How I miss ya
want to kiss ya
ah my dear mammon!

The cavemen were hungry one morning, but had their prayers answered when a huge mammonth fell from the skies for breakfast.

Unfortunately, there wasn't anybody left alive around the fire to eat it.

Thus beckons Mamman,
The bane of all devout men,
When wealth begets greed,
It morphs into need,
And that is enough to damn 'em.
