While not Jewish myself, I grew up in the most Jewish neighborhood in the city in the '50s and '60s--on the North Side, along Devon Avenue, between Western and California. It was a Cubs neighborhood, naturally, being on the North Side. But while we were passionate about the Cubs, most of us (like the folks described in this article) were OK with "liking" the Sox, too. They were Chicago's
American League team.
I was very happy and excited to see the Sox win the Series. Only a Cubs win could exceed that thrill.
