Gun in the waistband, safety apparently off. Pretty stupid.

Even more stupid perhaps that it was loaded.

Even more stupid perhaps that it was loaded. We can at least give the guy credit for understanding that an unloaded gun in your waistband isn't very useful....

Dropped the Dime on himself?
(sweet)
To: r9etb
It had to be cocked and unlocked, or had no trigger guard.
Is this a new no-action trigger?

Sounds like a perp coming to/from scene of crime? Prolly a gang-banger. From the article I don't know which Taco Express it is, but there is one pretty close to the part of town where most of the gang-bangers get into trouble.

So sorry for needless death - prayers offered for family.
Does anyone know if this young man was related to Randy "Duke" Cunningham -- R-California (50th)??

I don't believe this is the real story. Beginning with the exceptionally low probability of a gun going off solely because the wearer bent over, one is led to look for other explanations.
Facts:
1) This incident occurred at a fast food drive through window at 1:00AM;
2) a gun in the possession of a 22 year old male who drove up to the window, went off;
3) the gun went off at a point in the sequence of events where the cashier's cash drawer would have been open.
Detective GovernmentShrinker concludes that the most probable explanation for the discharge of the gun is that Mr. Randle Cunningham was in the process of trying to rob the cashier, had the gun in his hand with his finger on the trigger, was nervous to begin with due the planned robbery and was further rattled when his nervousness caused him to drop his change, and at that point inadvertently pulled the trigger.

Good thinking! I always figure if your getting drive-thru food at 1:00 in the morning you're probably plastered. Leanin out a car in a drunken stupor, loaded gun in your pants......
