Sometimes I think the very olden days were better.
Not feeling well? The local medicine man/woman would give you something to feel better, sacrifice a creature to appease the gods, and smoke out your bad spirits.
Nowadays, we have to wait for tests.
My oldest has an appointment with a urologist on Tuesday, the outcome of which determines whether we have abdomianl surgery now or later. Gack!

Ugh. But... brother-in-law was looking at some nasty back surgery with long recuperation, but learned of a new procedure that involves a minimal incision and very quick recovery (hours, not days). Went in for the latter yesterday, and was home and largely pain-free (for the first time in some time) by evening. Sometimes the new technologies actually are better.
