I am inspired in this thought today because my stepmom sent me an email that has the link to her quilt top photos. Shes's gotten quite good at piecing these things, and I want to brag on her: http://community.webshots.com/user/loco1ntx

Neat woven coverlet from the NMAH collection. Read about it here: http://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/object.cfm?key=35&objkey=247

I would love to find some fabric like this to make some throw pillows from for my living room. I could probably find an old, holey (NOT holy) coverlet at an antique store, but it would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my budget.

In the past, I have purchased old feed sacks that are torn, grease-stained or otherwise ruined, and made some pretty cute pillows out of them. I guess I am really into recycling!

That is sooooooo beautiful, but I would never be able to get to sleep; I would be studying all of the patterns in the fabric!

Oh, my, how lovely. What do you suppose the two cutout areas at the bottom left and right are all about? Or maybe that was the way she designed it--but the cuts appear to be made through the embroidery.

I know exactly what it's for. Beds had bedposts. This was to allow the coverlet to cover the foot of the bed and get around the posts themselves.

KoC, you just identified my biggest passion. :-D

I'm picking up a new loom this Sunday just so that I can do this kind of weaving. It has always fascinated me! :-)

Helene Bress published a 2-volume set of books last year showing many historical Overshot patterns, complete with drawdowns.

Ahhh, now I'm mellow and ready to finish up a few handsewing tasks before I go back to cleaning out a new loom space. I'll keep you all posted on the progress. :-)
